Vista, pros and cons

Cons: the release of Vista is expected to put 175 million PCs into landfill sites within the next 18 months.

Pros: it makes things like this possible.

It's an 18 minute video which you can either stream or download, and it starts getting good after about six minutes. It also features the world's most boring Director of Marketing but try and look past that.

Environment? Who cares.

  1. Just so you know this isn't done with vista. Some of the technology may be based on Vista - I wouldn't know how much. It is similar to the zune or pocket pc in that it probably has a windows kernel but I doubt it is actually running windows. If I am mistaken then please do let me know.

Also it will not be available to consumers for a while. It is first being sold to restaurants for helping customers order food and other such similar things.

  2. At some point in the 18 mins they disticntly say it's running on Vista. No doubt other OSs would work.

It will be released to the public eventually, but presumably not before they've developed a way of distinguishing genuine user input from the cat walking over the surface.

Maybe little cat-sized booties, with dots on them. And holes, for the claws.

  3. It is not using the vista interface or the bluetooth stack. Bluetooth is notoriously unreliable on vista. It is a very hacked version of vista.
